Why I love College

Meet New People
The one big difference from college and home is the fact that you are always surrounded by people. My friends would always tell me it is like one 8 month sleep over. I never thought it was true, but now that I am experiencing it, I agree with that idea. I love the idea of meeting someone new and them teaching me something I did not know before or expose me to something different.
Experience Different Cultures
I grew up in the middle of nowhere so moving to a city, I am being exposed to different cultures that are different than those families I grew up with who were the same for the past 18 years. Also, being in the city, there are different ways of life that are different than a small town environment. I am exposed to people who typically do not leave their rooms, or those who never come back and other dynamics that intrigue me.
Try Different Experiences
Back home, I am used to the same routine and staying within my comfort zone. Now that I am in a new city and a big school, I am more willing to try new things like go out and watch sporting events or immerse myself in different organizations to meet people. I also find myself exploring the area, taking the public transportation, and going to museums; all things I would not do when I was at home.
Explore New Fields
In college there are different opportunities available to learn new things and expose ourselves to different fields of interest. I try and take different classes that are different than engineering to learn about topics that I like such as psychology and Spanish. Although I cannot make a career out of them, I still like learning new things.
Great Education
The University of Pittsburgh is a very reputable university and many students leave their undergraduate career with a job, opportunity for graduate school, or enough experience to be successful in the future. I find that is it necessary to get a great education because in the back of my mind, I know that the work I put in and the stress I endure has a purpose in the end.
Pushed out of my Comfort Zone
I grew up living in a bubble I never wanted to leave. I would fret over the times where I would be put into a new situation where I thought I would be uncomfortable with. Going to college, I knew it was something I needed to do for myself and it made the bubble I created popped so that I can learn new things and gain different experiences to cherish in the future.
